Galien Revitalization Group News & Updates:

As we continue the fund-raising efforts for the Galien Village Christmas decorations, we are starting a series of events based on the concepts of the popular painting parties (Sip 'N Paint, Wine and Canvas or Painting with a Twist).  Our plan is to offer different types of painting and craft projects.

Our first session will be painting on wood, see image below. We are going to celebrate spring by painting one of our migration visitors – the tree swallow peeking out of his local home.  It is called ‘On Guard’ (he is guarding his nest) – and it is after a photo by Paul Lawson of New Carlisle.

No experience is required, Debra Stanis, a local artist, will walk you through the painting step by step – which color to use, where to put it and how to make your mark.  Your personality will come through so no two paintings will be alike, and by the way, there are only happy mistakes in art!

Essentially, you sign up, wear paint-worthy clothes or an old shirt and we provide the paint, brushes, pre-sketched slice of wood, and more. You will leave with a cute tree swallow ready to hang with a piece of cord.

More about the Galien Revitalization Group:

The Galien Revitalization Group is an informal group of individuals that intend to make Galien a more interesting and inviting place to live or visit.

The Group planned the first 4th of July parade which was a success.  It had a variety of entries and was well attended.  Leann Carpenter and Nancy Gaynor organized this event.

In conjunction with parade, the Group held a bake sale to raise money to buy banners for the Downtown area.  Proceeds from the bake sale and donations from other individuals generated $2,800 and was used for a set of banners.  Jeff Lausha of Great Lakes Design produced the banners.  The banners will be switched out with the changing of the seasons. Leann Carpenter and Jim & Donna Trapp provided the photos for the banners and managed the project.

A Fall Festival was held on October 22 that featured a chili and soup dinner at the American Legion.  Following the dinner, there was a ghost hunt of the older buildings in the Village which was led by the Michiana Paranormal Society. Ghosts were also placed in the Downtown area and were sponsored by various local businesses.

The Group is also taking donations for new Christmas decorations to be purchased in 2017. Checks should be made payable to "Village of Galien" and sent to P.O. Box 296, Galien, MI 49113, or dropped off on Tuesday from 8:00am to 12:00pm or Wednesday from 1:00pm to 5:00pm. Please write "Christmas Decorations" in the check memo section so that it is put to the proper fund.

The Group wishes to thank everyone who has supported their efforts!
